Corrugated polymer pipes for sewage used instead of concrete, steel and cast iron predecessors. Having the same high strength and long operating time, the corrugated sewer pipe weighs several times less and it is mounted very easily.

Description and use of corrugated sewer pipes

Corrugated pipes are used for storm, non-pressure, sanitary, general alloy industrial and domestic sewers. The corrugation pipe has recesses located at the same distance from each other. These recesses are located along the entire length of the pipe. Such a corrugated profile provides the necessary ring stiffness. Compared to smooth pipes, corrugated pipes are several times superior to them in terms of stability and strength. Corrugated pipes, depending on the properties, are divided into:

  • light corrugated pipes that have low mechanical stability are used for the construction of an external sewer system;
  • heavy corrugated pipes, with an average level of mechanical resistance, are used for underground sewage;
  • superheavy corrugated pipes with high mechanical resistance are intended for laying sewers under a railway bed or a highway.

A variety of corrugated pipe types meets the requirements of various sewage systems.

Classification of sewer pipes

Corrugated pipes are single-layer and two-layer. The two-layer construction is more durable and easily tolerates soil pressure when used in the installation of underground sewers. The separation of two-layer corrugated pipes for sewage into types occurs due to the use of different materials for their production:

  • Corrugated pipes made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), are used in industrial sewage systems, the central drain, for sewers of country houses. They withstand strong mechanical loads, do not clog during operation, have a working temperature of -40 to + 50 degrees Celsius, with a short time interval of up to +90. PVC double-layer sewer pipes do not corrode, are environmentally friendly, are mounted to a depth of 15 meters, and have a shelf life of up to 50 years. The color of corrugated pipes for outdoor sewage is orange, gray and yellow.
  • Corrugated pipes made of polypropylene (PP). Ideal for chemically dirty soil and used for drainage, outdoor and storm sewage systems. They withstand temperatures ranging from -20 to +95 degrees Celsius, have increased mechanical strength, suitable for soil with sand, gravel, etc. Not susceptible to chemicals in liquid waste.
  • Corrugated pipes made of low pressure polyethylene (IPA). They have the same properties as PVC pipes. They are: environmentally friendly, withstand a wide range of temperature differences, increased tightness and ease of dismantling and repair.

Helpful advice! Professionals recommend installing just two-layer pipes in surface, underground and storm sewer systems.

The use of double-layer corrugated pipes for storm sewer systems

Storm sewage is called a pressureless system of channels and devices for collecting, filtering and discharging precipitation and melt water. In most cases, these are grated rain collectors - double layer corrugated pipesby which precipitation is sent to a well or reservoir. It is better to select rain collectors with an opening for fastening pipes, which allows to accelerate the movement of wastewater. The corrugation of the sewer pipe is preferably laid with a slope of 1%, that is, 1 cm per 1 m of pipe. So that the sewer pipes do not freeze, they are installed below the level of soil freezing. The part of the pipe that is in the freezing zone is wrapped with a heater so that there is no subzero temperature inside. Depending on the amount of atmospheric precipitation in the region, the size of corrugated pipes for storm sewers ranges from 110 mm to 210 mm.

The use of double-layer corrugated pipes for an external sewage system

External sewage is very important for the discharge of effluents and other waste. Corrugated pipes for external sewage have a number of requirements:

  • resistance to the composition of the waste;
  • strength, environmental friendliness, heat resistance;
  • ease of maintenance.

When laying corrugated sewer pipes for external sewage, soil composition and congestion are taken into account. Pipe sizes start at 110 mm and above. If the sewer pipe is laid in the landscaping zone, then a light look is chosen; in a zone with a small flow of moving vehicles - a heavy look; under highways and railroad tracks - super-heavy kind of pipes. Just when installing corrugated sewer pipes in homogeneous soil, one of their main advantages is visible: the soil fits snugly against the corrugations of the corrugated profile and the pipe takes a stable position.

Helpful advice! A corrugated pipe for external sewage is selected as a two-layer pipe with a smooth inner surface, painted in white or blue. This color choice helps you quickly find damage and repair.

When using a corrugated pipe in the sewage system, it easily copes with the flow of wastewater and household waste.

The advantages of corrugated sewage pipes

Corrugated pipes for sewage have a high threshold of stability, compared with reinforced concrete and cast-iron pipes and weigh very little. At the same time, there are rings in the sewer corrugated two-layer pipes, the rigidity of which allows to withstand the soil pressure at a depth of up to 20 meters. Some are simply mounted using a special solvent that glues the pipe to the fitting. For other pipes, classic connection methods. Many manufacturers produce a corrugated pipe for sewage with a protruding extended edge for docking with other parts of the sewer, which ultimately gives greater tightness. The material from which the pipes are made does not lend itself to corrosion, be it PVC, HDPE or PP.

Interesting fact! Since corrugated two-layer sewer pipes are used quite often, manufacturers made the lower price limit affordable for everyone, while the quality remained at a high level.

For storm, drainage and outdoor sewage systems, the temperature regime that corrugated pipes can withstand is important. When using pipes in urban systems, and especially in production, resistance to the chemical composition of the waste is necessary in order to avoid deposits inside the pipe.With proper maintenance and proper operation, double-layer corrugated sewage pipes serve 50 years or more.
