In recent years, corrugated pipes have become increasingly popular in laying water systems and wiring. They are made of metal, polypropylene, self-extinguishing polyvinyl chloride, as well as low-pressure polyethylene. The latter material has many advantages, which explains its popularity in the market.

Corrugated pipe

Low-pressure polyethylene has high technical characteristics, so pipes from it are used very widely

Main properties and features of PND corrugated pipe

Low-pressure polyethylene is resistant to chemically active substances (acid, alkali, salt solutions, mineral oils) even at high temperatures. In addition, it is biologically inert. Organic solvents also do not affect its integrity and performance.

The polyethylene pipe practically does not absorb moisture, which makes it more durable. Sometimes it is even installed in trenches filled with water (if it is not possible to pump out moisture or conduct communications in another place). In this case, it is weighted along the length with sandbags or other cargo, since it is light.

In addition, the corrugated pipe PND insulates electricity well (indicators of electric strength of individual grades reach 150 kV / mm). If we compare it with LDPE, it is more rigid, has a yield strength of 30 MPa, while maintaining a high level of resistance to mechanical damage. Therefore, often pipes of this material are used to protect cables and wiring.

The material is light in weight and compactly packed in coils with a small diameter. This greatly simplifies and speeds up the transportation process.

Corrugated Polyethylene Pipe Features

The polyethylene pipe for water supply systems and electrical wiring has gained popularity due to its many advantages:

  • elasticity. This makes it possible to change the angle of rotation during installation;
  • resistance to sharp changes in temperature and maintaining performance at extreme temperatures. Corrugated pipe pnd is able to function normally both at -25 and at +90 degrees;
  • resistance to moisture, dust and dirt;
  • durability. This product is not subject to oxidation or corrosion, is resistant to mechanical damage;
  • lightness and reliability;
  • universality. Such a pipeline can be installed with both bell and socketless methods. In addition, the double-walled structure allows its use in the external and internal communication system (open, hidden and half-hidden);
  • excellent insulating performance. Polyethylene corrugation provides a high level of protection for electrical wiring from various damages of a mechanical, chemical and organic nature.

However, do not forget about the disadvantages of low-pressure polyethylene:

  • the material is not used for laying communications of hot water supply;
  • double-walled corrugated pipe PND has a higher cost when compared with analogues from LDPE;
  • exposure to the negative effects of ultraviolet rays. This somewhat reduces their life.

Classification and scope

When choosing and buying corrugated pipes from pnd for electrical wiring, pay attention to the main characteristics of the product. Proceed from the environment in which they will be installed (in soil, above ground or in concrete), for what period of operation you expect, and also for what purposes you plan to use them (water supply systems, sewage or electrical wiring). Depending on these and other factors, pipelines from PND distinguish:

  • in size. The polyethylene pipe may have a diameter of 110 mm, 160 mm or 200 mm;
  • by type (light and heavy type);
  • on a complete set. They can be with or without a probe; often they are equipped with couplings (to ensure the connection of fragments of the pipeline).

Corrugated pipes from HDPE are used in the repair and construction of various types of objects (residential buildings, cottages, industrial and commercial enterprises). They serve as part of drainage and sewer systems.

The double-walled pipe has good electrical insulation characteristics, so it is also used for additional protection of the cable and wiring. It is not only reliable, durable, but also at a price more affordable than other protection methods (armored cable, for example).

Helpful advice! When choosing and buying material, pay attention to the price. Too low a cost may be a sign of defective products. It is better not to save on quality, as this can lead to a malfunction of communication systems and, as a result, to even greater costs.

Double-walled pipes

The double-walled polyethylene pipe is designed to protect the cable of low and high voltage from mechanical damage and aggressive environmental influences when laying in soil or in concrete.

It is made of two types of material: corrugated HDPE (outer layer) and smooth ribbed LDPE (inner layer) and has the following technical characteristics:

  • increased ring stiffness;
  • resistance to contrasting temperatures. A double-walled pipe performs its functions at temperatures from minus 40 to plus 50 degrees of the external environment;
  • working temperature: from -40 to +90 degrees. It is worth noting that the elasticity of the material is maintained even at low temperatures;
  • the strength of the material is from 4000 to 6000 N per 1 m at 20 degrees (depending on type and size)
  • insulation resistance - at least 100 MΩ (500 V, for 1 min);
  • degree of protection of the product - IP 55.

Double-walled pipe is easily and quickly installed, which reduces the cost of installation process, since it does not require the use of special equipment and hiring workers. You can easily repair and replace the cable at intermediate points and cable wells throughout their life. In addition, such a pipeline is resistant to seismic vibrations. The corrugated pipe PND withstands deformation without breaks of 7.5%, surpassing other materials in this.

Double-walled pipes - a special kind of corrugated products, which is characterized by very high strength

In addition, cable routing in such pipes is quick and easy due to the low coefficient of friction.

Pipeline installation

Installation of corrugated polyethylene pipes is carried out in several stages.

  • First you need to dig a trench with a width corresponding to the diameter of the pipe plus 40 cm. Its bottom should be flat and have a design slope. It is important that the bottom is also dry and not frozen. Level the bottom of the dug trench with a level and make sure that there are no sharp and hard protruding objects at its bottom.This is important because the presence of such obstacles can lead to a violation of the integrity of the pipes and malfunction of the wiring;
  • if you put the material in an artificial environment (for example, concrete), you need a sand cushion with a thickness of at least 10 cm;
  • Now connect the pipes in series at the bottom of the trench. At the same time, cover them on the sides with earth to ensure the straightness of the pipeline;
  • double-walled corrugation can be stacked in several vertical rows. The main thing is to provide the desired width and depth. When turning it 90 degrees, check for proper bending. Its radius should be at least 2 meters;
  • use plugs to protect pipes from getting inside water and dirt;
  • if the double-walled corrugation is placed in the hot season, even the temperature of the pipes and soil with sand or soil (10 cm layer). After that, you can make the final filling of the trench.

Helpful advice! Filling and compaction of the sinuses of the trench is best done in layers: each layer is 5 cm for clay soil and 10 cm for sand.

There are many spheres where a double-walled corrugated pipe is used. These products are unpretentious to operating conditions and easy to install. But in order for the pipeline to meet all safety requirements (especially with regard to electrical wiring) and successfully fulfill its functions over the years, only high-quality products should be purchased and properly installed.
